    Hello Great minds,

I have indicated interest in two universities in Canada (Ryerson University and Ontario Western University) for a masters program in Chemical Engineering (Research based masters) and as a requirement I have been asked to connect with a professor first before I can proceed with my application.

This is to kindly seek for your advice, guidance, contribution etc on how best to connect with a professor.

    Thank you all.

    Hi Onazi!
Congratulations on the first step. You are already on the right path.

So if you actually got a response to first find a professor, that is a positive sign.

What you have to do next is to check the research works of the different departments and select the ones that align with you. It helps to have a deep understanding of what you want before reaching out to any of them. That means, you have a good idea of what they are currently working on and how this aligns with your interest.

Once the above is sorted out, then you draft the first email to the shortlisted professors. We can have a look at the drafts and fine tune them.

    I hope this helps ๐Ÿ™‚

PS: Your name without the O won’t be good in Germany. Lol ๐Ÿ™‚
Maybe that’s why you chose Canada – good choice!

    Hi Onazi,

@Wasi has already explained the next steps – shortlisting the projects of interest, learning about the supervisors (Professors) and then drafting an email, indicating your interests in their works and requesting supervision.
In the email draft, I’d talk more on my background and work/practical experience, especially how these align with the research scope. Then I’d ask if I can be a part of the research team.
I hope this gives you an idea on how to proceed.
