    Settling for a school could be a huge task and overwhelming sometimes. There are factors to be considered when making that decision. Some of these factors are;

    Location

    When choosing a school, the things that should come to your mind are; would you live in an urban or rural location, what is the proximity from home to school, Would you be able to access transportation easily. You should take all these into consideration.

    Services and Programs for International Students

    As an international student, you should look into any international student programs and services provided by the school. Do well to inquire if the school would provide you with a wide variety of programs, services, and activities to help with the cultural transition?

    Cost

    Cost is an important factor to consider when choosing a School. If accepted, can you afford the tuition fee, if it isn’t tuition-free? It is important to factor in the financial aid the school is likely to offer you, and to find and apply for as many scholarships as possible.

    Safety

    Safety is a very important factor to consider. Over the past few years, crime has been increasing, even on college campuses. When considering a school, you may want to look into its crime statistics and find out what steps the school is taking to ensure the safety of its students.

    Second Language Fluency

    Communication is vital wherever you find yourself because you must speak with people. Most students who decide to cross their nation’s borders in order to study in foreign educational institutions have language barriers since they are not able to speak their native languages. However, students can overcome these barriers by constant practicing. By doing this they get competitive and connected with native speakers.

    University reputation

    Prestigious universities attract many international students yearly. Sometimes, the competition among students is fierce, as the acceptance rate of some educational institutions is quite low so international students consider this is as an indicator of high-quality education and excellent academic background after graduation. The reputation of the university includes other factors like world university rankings, researches have taken by the university to benefit the local community and the country where the university is based in.

    With so many schools to choose from, you are likely to find one that meets most of your criteria. Take some time to list any other factors that are important to you.

    Please, always feel free to ask questions and leave comments below.

    Great post, @Dorcas

    But the points mentioned above, do they apply to all locations or just some countries? If some, which countries are there?
    I mean, as an international student in Canada, should the things I consider be the same as someone going to the UK, for example?
    How about things like weather and opportunities for international students from the states?

    It’d be nice to know your opinion on this. Thanks.
