You’ll need the following items when applying for a super visa:

a letter of invitation from your Canadian citizen or permanent resident child or grandchild, which includes:

    • a pledge of financial support for the duration of your visit
    • a list of this person’s family members and the number of persons in their household
    • a copy of this person’s Canadian citizenship or permanent resident document

Evidence that your child’s or grandchild’s household earns the bare minimum; examples include:

    • For the most current tax year, get a Notice of Assessment (NOA) or a T4/T1.
    • employment Insurance stubs

    • employment letter including salary and date of hiring

    • pay stubs

    • bank statements

Pay slips from the Social Security Administration

Pay slips and bank statements included in the employment letter, as well as the salary and date of hire.

Proof of medical insurance payment from a Canadian insurance carrier that is:

    • valid for at least one year.
    • at least $100,000 coverage.

    • a document confirming that you had an immigration medical exam.

Are you visa-exempt? You can still apply for a super visa.

You can still receive a super visa to stay in Canada for up to two years if you don’t need a visiting visa.If your application is approved, you will be sent a letter that you must provide to a border services officer when you arrive in Canada.

If you travel by air, you may also need to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) separately to allow you to travel to and enter Canada. Because the eTA will be electronically linked to your passport, you must travel to Canada using the passport you used to apply for the eTA as well as your letter.
