You can settle in the UK by obtaining indefinite leave to remain. It is also known as “settlement.” It grants you the freedom to stay in the country as long as you wish, work there, study there, and, if you qualify, ask for benefits.

Depending on your situation, there are various ways to apply for indefinite permission to remain.

If you work in the UK

If you have a work visa, you could be eligible to apply. Typically, you have to have spent five years living and working in the UK. It may be two or three years if you hold a tier 1 visa.

It may be three years if you have an innovator or global talent visa. Depending on your visa, you might additionally need to meet the wage or financial requirements.

How you apply depends on if you:

If you have family in the UK

If you have a spouse, parent, child, or other relative who is a British citizen or who has indefinite right to reside in the country, you might be eligible to apply.

    Other ways are if:

If you’ve spent ten years residing in the UK

If you have resided in this country for ten years or more, you might be eligible to apply. If you already hold a visa based on your private life, you can apply in a different way. Ongoing to June 2022.

    Commonwealth citizens

If you have lived in the UK for five years on a UK Ancestry visa and are a citizen of another country in the Commonwealth, you may apply.

In the UK, some Commonwealth citizens have the “right of abode.” This indicates that there are no restrictions on your ability to live or work in the UK.

    Other ways to apply

You may have eligibility to apply for indefinite leave to remain if you:

As a newbie in travelling space and a fresh graduate of applied geology, I need a company that can sponsor my work visa in the UK so as to work with them.

I will like to know about available offers for migration to countries in western and central Europe through Career. I have six years experience managing power infrastructures on Telecommunication base stations in Nigeria. I’m also considering study options if I can get tuition free institutions in Europe for masters. I have a bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering.

You can go both ways; apply for studies in Germany, quite easy, and for jobs as well.

Do you have any experience applying to jobs abroad?

The first step to applying to study in Germany is to decide on what you want to study, then shortlist the universities offering the course, take note if the required documents and gather them. Then start applying when the application window opens.

In your case it’d be very easy since you have a bachelors degree and work experience; so you most likely have all the requirements from most universities in Germany. One thing you may want to get is either an IELTS result or a statement from your previous university that your bachelors was in English, hence you are proficient in the language.

You have to start small. Gain some work experience from smaller companies, have a specialization, build on it and then start making your way up, to the big guys. Do you understand how I mean?
