    Some Traditional Dominican Dishes Worth Trying

    Like many countries in the regions around and nearby West Africa, the Dominican Republic’s food habits have had African influences, like eating too much starch-based food in large portions. Most of their ‘comida criolla’ is made up of rice and red beans. (Dominican food is known as ‘Comida criolla.’

    The Dominican Republic is a nation with a long and varied history. It was under Spanish colonial rule for hundreds of years and has been part of France, Haiti, and even American control until its independence in 1924.

    Comida criolla is a combination of traditional Spanish and African traditions. The base of any Dominican meal starts with the mixture of spices used. This often includes spices like cilantro, green pepper, onion, garlic, salt, and additions like tomato and vinegar.

    Below are some listed Dominican dishes to try out. They are:

    • Mangu (mashed plantain dish)

    • Arroz Blanco( White rice)

    • Habichuela Guisada (Stewed Beans)

    • Pollo Guisado (Braised Chicken)

    • Tostones(Twice-Fried Plantains)

    • Ensalada Verde (Green Salad)

    • Bizcocho Dominicano (Dominican Cake)

    • Morir Soñando (Milk and Orange Drink)

    • La Bandera ( This meal comprises of red beans, stewed meat, and white rice, this dish will set you up for the day ahead.

    • Locrio (more akin to locrio is more akin to the Spanish paella).

    • Pescado Frito (fried fish)

    • Shrimp Asopao ( shrimp stew)

    If you happen to be in Dominican Republic, these Dominican dishes are definitely worth trying.

    they look nice, especially the last frame, but I always have second thoughts about trying new Dishes, trying these dominican dishes with a friend must be nice cause we’ll get to visit the toilet as a duo😂

      Ahan! Honestly, there is this excitement that comes with trying new things, most especially food and I don’t think these dishes should scare you, don’t worry! Plus they look so appetising 😀
