here are a few things to look out for when choosing where to apply;
-A role that aligns with the career you’re hoping for.
Some people look for internships at random because they need something to put on their resume. However, if you land an internship at a law firm and want to work in fashion, that experience won’t be much of a stepping stone. It may take some extra effort on your part, but narrow your search to positions that will put you on the path to your ideal career. You may have to travel a longer distance or work longer hours to make that happen, but it will be worthwhile in the end.
–An opportunity to learn something.
While it’s true that any type of experience can make you more marketable after university, if you really hope to kick-start a solid career, aim for an internship that gives you a chance to do more than just general office work. Be willing to do a whole lot of work!
-A long term mentor.
It is always beneficial to connect with people from whom you can continuously learn in internships and in life. When looking for an internship, try to read the people you’re interviewing with and gravitate toward those who seem open to serving as your mentor.
-Compensation.
Feel free to look for a paid internship. The money would definitely come in handy for books and other school items. It’ll also give you a feel of a proper salary and enable you develop financial habits that will help you throughout life. However, do not sacrifice a job that may be a perfect fit for you because there’s no compensation! Be willing to make sacrifices for your passion.
