The whole point of travelling to a different country is to absorb the sights, enjoy the local culture, language and importantly, experience the food.
It is so easy and tempting to order a room service at the hotel but you will be shortchanging yourself. Honestly, it’s a huge loss to miss out on trying delicious meals that are different from what you usually consume. Eating the local dishes goes a long way in immersing yourself in the culture because it is an effective way to meet new people and explore neighborhoods that are not on your tourist maps.

Few tips on how to eat like a local as a tourist.

    1. Do a research of the food in the country you are travelling to.

    2. Ask the locals for recommendation. Don’t be afraid to speak to them, they know the best places to eat.

    3. Check out food blogs before you travel. They might contain helpful tips.

    4. Don’t be nervous if you can’t read the menu because of language barrier. Ask for help.

It’s really interesting how people talk about food, especially in a foreign country. Lol 😂

Maybe I feel this way cos am not really a good people. Anywho, I can definitely tell you that food really brings people together, and it is for sure a good way to make new friends and connect while living abroad.

One additional tip, although already mentioned above, I just want to reemphasize on the need to do a little research, especially if you are visiting the place for a short time.

Coincidentally, I had an experience today in Lyon, France: I couldn’t find a place to eat after walking the streets for over an hour. I went to at least 5 places suggested by Google; they either don’t have regular food, aren’t opened yet or completely closed 😭😭

Haha! That’s a wild experience. Imagine going to five restaurants and not finding what to eat. Where you not open to trying a new dish? I think it’s fun to try a new dish when I visit a new place.

No, I actually wanted to try out something local, but then the opening times of the locals seem to be well updated on Google. I ended up getting a wrap from Sub-Way 🙁

I finally found something to eat after exploring the city.

That’s the biggest starter meal I have ever had or seen. Lol 😂

Couldn’t finish it even after two days. Still have it in my fridge 😂😂😂
